This year the 2nd Annual RestorAction Charity Gala will be raising funds for Mentorship of At-Risk Youth
involved with Youth Restorative Action Project (“YRAP”) and the Elizabeth Fry Society of Edmonton’s (“E Fry”)
Mentoring Program. The event will be held on October 13, 2007 at the Coast Edmonton Plaza Hotel. It is
sure to be a fun filled event with lively entertainment, unique and exciting music as well as a silent auction.
Below is an outline of where the money raised at this event will be distributed.
The funds delegated for mentorship will allow mentors to provide a wide range of strategies and
opportunities to help each young person with their individual needs. The mentors will use the funds
for such things as enrollment in music or art programs and providing materials for extracurricular
activities. The idea is to help the youth grow and develop in a positive and enriching manner. The main
aims of this program is to direct youth away from negative or criminal activities and focus their time on
alternative and positive social activities and become contributing members of society.
We would like to invite you to help our cause by sponsoring this event and becoming part of the future of
these youth. Your donation will be duly noted in our program booklet, media tools and mention of your
generosity will be outlined throughout. As well, all Corporate Sponsors will receive a tax receipt for their
contribution. We also encourage you to come out to the Gala and experience first hand the work of our
dedicated volunteers and the youth they support.
Why RestorAction? The name is in honor of the first annual YRAP gala in support of aid agencies in a disaster
stricken region of the Philippines. The name of the event is derived from the Spanish word “restauración”. An
English reading of this word results in “restoraction”. This title fits not only with emphasis on action
within your community but also with the idea of restoring communities to their full potential.
Youth Restorative Action Project (“YRAP”) in Edmonton, Alberta is a co-sponsor of the event. YRAP is a
proactive program, created for youth by youth, sanctioned under the Youth Criminal Justice Act to work in
Provincial Youth Court with young people who have caused harm as a result of racism, intolerance, or other
significant social issues. YRAP is intended to be rehabilitative rather than punitive in nature, and aims to
offer creative and effective resolutions that will serve this purpose for the offender, as well as, the
community at large. YRAP also works closely with Canadian Youth in hopes of making them more aware of their
rights as prescribed the United Nation’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The Elizabeth Fry Society of Edmonton is also a sponsor of the event. The Elizabeth Fry Society of Edmonton
has, for 25 years, lived out its mission to help women of all ages who come into contact with the legal
system. With the programs funded and supported by people like you, we have fostered the worth and dignity of
these women helping them to live as valued members of their communities. The Elizabeth Fry Society is
committed to seeking out and organizing community resources to give humane assistance to women in contact
with the legal system, assisting them in making positive choices in their lives, and monitoring the judicial
and corrections systems to promote improvements when and where possible.
